Instrumental Peace is a fiscally sponsored grassroots organization in Lancaster County, PA that uses music as a tool to honor the stories and empower the lives of our elders.
Victorian Villa's Director of Wellness, Linda Jermyn, shared that in her 12+ year tenure she had never experienced anything like the morning Lauren and the bluegrass band came to serenade the residents. "Residents who never participate in activities were dancing, clapping, singing, and smiling like they hadn't smiled in a long time. Residents with dementia who have trouble remembering what they had for breakfast still ask me, weeks later, 'When are we going to have that music again?' Our staff got emotional seeing all that happiness, hearing our Lauren sing and play.”
Who We Are
Instrumental Peace remains on the cutting edge of elder care programming through its active engagement with the elder population in Central PA.
The favorite music that is collected and transcribed contains the living fabric of this generation, shaped and colored by those who lived it.
"As a musician, I use music as a tool to spark connection. As each individual makes that connection, they attach their own meaning and memory, giving them permission to re-frame past events and reconcile significant relationships." ~Lauren Knatz, Founder of IP
Music is the common thread that brings families and loved ones together to ask the existential questions:
Why am I here? Will I be remembered?
